Ensuring confidence that your IT disaster recovery solution continually meets business needs and will work when needed
IT disaster recovery (or simply abbreviated to DR) is a component of business continuity (BC) and refers to processes and procedures designed to allow an organisation to recover its IT infrastructure after a major incident within business defined parameters. Being part of BC, the disaster recovery programme is owned by the business and facilitated by the IT department on their behalf.
Like business continuity, it can be considered part of risk management and good business practice as it seeks to mitigate the risk of disruption, minimise the impact of and return the IT infrastructure to full functionality after a major IT incident.
The planning and plan testing that precedes a major IT incident ensures that the business is prepared for a major IT incident and the IT department can enact the recovery procedures should they are ever needed.
Like any business process, the effectiveness of the DR programme should be reviewed regularly to ensure that it maintains relevance in an ever changing environment.
DR Capability and Readiness Assessment
The ‘DR Capability and Readiness Assessment’ is a snapshot of your IT disaster recovery capability. It will identify if any remedial activities need to be undertaken to ensure that you disaster recovery readiness meets your business requirements.
DR Business Impact Analysis (BIA)
The ‘DR Business Impact Analysis (BIA)’ measures your IT Applications (and their dependencies) business importance and your business defined recovery parameters including time to restart and acceptable data loss so you know the order and time of application recovery after a major IT incident.
DR Programme Implementation
The ‘DR Programme Implementation’ ensures that all required DR components are implemented according to best practice guidelines of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII), Australian and International standards.
DR Programme Managed Service
The ‘DR Programme Managed Service’ is an annual audit (or more frequent if you require) of your DR programme to ensure that it remains relevant to your business; delivering confidence that it is robust and is evolving as your business grows.
